General Description of Test:The Vienna Test System is a computerised collection of tests and assessments that can be used alone or combined as batteries of tests. The system contains some 74 instruments covering work, health and education and categorised as Intelligence, General Ability, Special Ability, Personality Structure, Attitude and Interests and Clinical tests. Many of the tests are multi-lingual with the majority being in German and English. Those tests that are produced in the English Language and have not been reviewed elsewhere are reviewed here as individual tests. Reaction Test Analysis (RT) is one of 8 General Ability Tests within the fully computerised Vienna Test System. It is a test of attention, measuring the reaction time to visual and auditory stimuli. Test administration is possible with adults and children from six years of age. The test involves the test taker responding when relevant stimuli are presented. Response input is via the VTS work panel. Test takers have their finger on a gold button for the duration of the test, moving it to press the black button when they perceive critical stimuli. Each test begins with an error sensitive practice phase. There are ten test forms (S1-S10) which differ in terms of modality, complexity, number of critical stimuli and test length. Test forms S1-S5 measure the reaction time (split into reaction and motor time) to respond to simple and complex visual or auditory signals. For test form S1, test takers react when they see a yellow light, whilst for test from S2 they react to a 2000Hz tone. Test form S3 requires the test taker to react when they see a yellow tone and hear a 2000Hz tone at the same time and test form S4 demands a reaction when red and yellow lights are shown at the same time. For test form S5 test takers react when they perceive either red and yellow lights together or a yellow light and a 2000Hz tone together. Test form S6 records reaction time (to a simple white light stimulus) over a longer period of time (vigilance). Test forms S7 and S8 measure alertness by measuring reaction to a yellow light after an auditory signal (S7) or reaction to a 2400Hz tone after a visual signal (S8). Test forms S9 and S10 involve simple reaction time measurements to white light (S9) and tone (S10). Scoring is recorded in four main variables, median reaction time, median motor time and inter-quartile range/median in percentiles for both variables.
